LDP Supports and Endorses Duterte
The Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) on Tuesday announced its endorsement of the presidential bid of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
“The LDP has decided to give Mayor Duterte its full and unequivocal support because we believe his platform addresses the core problems of the country, at this crucial juncture in our history," LDP chairman former Senator Edgardo Angara said in a statement.
“Mayor Duterte offers the best hope for structural change... Duterte’s Peace and Prosperity Agenda directly responds to the plight of the Filipino,” he also said.
Duterte is running under the PDP-Laban.
The LDP used to be one of the country's most influential parties, particularly during the Aquino, Ramos and Estrada administrations.
After the administration of the late former President Corazon Aquino, the LDP forged coalitions with Ramos' Lakas-NUCD and Estrada's Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino.
The LDP was one of the Liberal Party's coalition partners in the 2013 elections.
Angara's son, Juan Edgardo, ran and won a Senate seat with President Benigno Aquino's Team PNoy ticket.
The party also has two seats in the House of Representatives, along with a number of municipal mayors, vice governors, and provincial board members.
